War of the Lions Tweak v2.52 - Unique and Multiplayer Items:

This document is extra optional reading material for the "no missable items" and the "multiplayer items
are obtainable in the campaign" changes.

There are no more missable items in the game, and the 40 multiplayer-exclusive items have been added to
the campaign, but these changes necessitated changing where certain items are obtained. This document
lists all unique and multiplayer-exclusive items and explains the new methods for obtaining them in this
mod. If you'd rather discover them yourself instead, turn back now!

  Contents of this document:

    1.) Quick Reference
2.) Initial Equip on Chapter 4 Party Members
    3.) Guaranteed Drops from Sidequests
4.) Treasure Hunter Pickups on Optional Maps

Section 1 is a quick reference list organized by item type; Sections 2 through 4 are more detailed
explanations on where and how you can obtain each item. Throughout this guide, an asterisk (*) indicates a
formerly missable or unique item; a pound sign (#) indicates a formerly multiplayer-exclusive item; a dash
    (-) indicates a non-unique, non-missable item (a few of which have been added); a plus (+) indicates a
    completely new item.

Note: Though Treasure Hunter is no longer an ability you equip (this mod makes it passively apply at all
times), this guide will still use the term "Treasure Hunter" (or "treasure hunting") to refer to
finding items on the ground during battle.

  Section 1.) Quick Reference

This section lists all unique and multiplayer items in order by item type. Before we begin, some notes:

     * For completeness, all unique items are listed, even if the method for obtaining them hasn't changed. By
"unique" items, I mean items that have exactly one copy in the game. Obtaining more than one copy via
stealing, poaching, treasure hunting, or buying is impossible.

     * A few unique items had two copies in the original game - but not anymore! Previous versions of this mod
maintained these copies, but the item distribution was simply too generous. The most prominent of
these items is Excalibur. While losing a second copy of Excalibur may be a bummer to some players,
ultimately it's for the better because Speed-buffing items and Knight Swords already completely
dominate the endgame (and besides, in exchange you're getting 40+ new items, many of which are even
        more powerful than Excalibur anyway).

For reference, these are the unique items that no longer have a second copy: Save the Queen,
Excalibur, Ragnarok, Sasuke's Blade, Zeus Mace, Kaiser Shield, Venetian Shield, and Ninja Gear.

     # There are 40 multiplayer-exclusive items in the game, but they may not be the items you expect. War of
the Lions added 40 new items, but 3 of them are already obtainable in the campaign, so they will
appear with an asterisk (Ras Algethi, Mirage Vest, and Tynar Rouge). Whereas 3 previous items were
made unobtainable except in multiplayer, so they will appear with a pound sign (Genji Shield, Genji
        Helm, and Genji Glove).

     # All multiplayer items were also made unique. In other words, there is exactly one of each in the game.
I know these are actually grindable for more than one in vanilla (in multiplayer), but tough cookies.
These are the most powerful items in the game, and I think it's a better experience if they are
limited. Also, it was hard enough finding 40+ new places for items in chapter 4!

+ Completely new items are listed with a plus icon. These items were added to solve design or balance
problems. For example, a new endgame Bow was added to help Archers remain viable at the end of the
game. These items are also unique (there's exactly one of each). Wherever possible, they borrow names
and functionality from items in other Ivalice games, in order to ensure that they feel like they
        belong in this world.

For reference, this is the list of completely new items: Cinquedea (knife), Dhanusha (bow),
Arbalest (crossbow), Escort Guard (men only clothing), Rune Armlet (accessory), and Zodiac Glove
        (accessory).

     - In some cases, non-unique items were added to certain maps, usually to preserve the incentive for
treasure hunting or stealing on a map. These items don't appear in the quick reference, but they will
appear in the sections that follow it. These items are listed with a dash icon. Because they are
non-unique, they are not missable, even if you forget to treasure hunt or steal them (because they can
        be poached or purchased later).

     - Some non-unique items that were replaced with unique items are simply lost. For example, Meliadoul now
starts with the multiplayer item Empyreal Armband instead of the non-unique Hermes Shoes, so the
Hermes Shoes are lost. Yes, that means Orlandeau's Bracer is also gone. Previous versions of this mod
made up for these items by adding extra copies elsewhere, but further playtesting has shown that this
was unnecessary and even unfun. Again, the game is already too generous with items, to the point where
I never needed to spend any Gil at shops during my playtesting. So now if you want a Bracer, you'll
        have to buy one!

      * You can still permanently miss items by dismissing Agrias, Beowulf, or Reis from your team.
        Don't do that!

Section 3.) Guaranteed Drops from Sidequests

These items are automatically dropped as war trophies from sidequest battles. Many of these items
previously required a missable chance at stealing or treasure hunting to acquire them. In these cases, the
original Steal / Treasure Hunter item was replaced with something non-unique but still rare. This ensures
that there's still incentive to go after the item, but your perfect save is no longer lost by missing it.

AGRAIS BIRTHDAY SIDEQUEST (Land on a town on Gemini 32, Cancer 1, or Cancer 2)
      * Tynar Rouge - Purchase for 50,000 Gil

A MYSTERIOUS OTHERWORLDLY TRAVELER SIDEQUEST: SAL GHIDOS
      * Iga Blade - Moved here from Midlight's Deep Floor 5

DISORDER IN THE ORDER SIDEQUEST: BRIGANDS' DEN

Note: The Hydrascale Bag and Sortilége have been moved to Reis's initial equipment.

**************************************************************************************************************

Section 4.) Treasure Hunter Pickups on Optional Maps

These items are obtained by stepping on the correct tile with a human (non-monster) character. In most
cases they replace Elixirs, which have been added as after-battle drops to make up for their loss. In
cases where they replace non-unique items, the replaced item is simply gone (it can be poached or
    purchased still, of course).

The locations of the tiles didn't change - only their contents. So you can still use your favorite
walkthrough to locate all the tiles. The exception is the one unreachable tile on Mount Bervenia - its new
location is one tile short of the mountain's peak.

Midlight's Deep is an extreme case - the Treasure Hunter progression for all floors has been redone. This
was necessary in order to accomodate all 40 multiplayer items while still maintaining a reasonable power
progression. Almost all multiplayer items are more powerful than the items originally found at the lowest
floors, so there simply was no room for them all to appear at the bottom without pushing the original
    items upward.

Note: Even though Onion equipment is "the most powerful", you can find it all relatively early.
I want the player to have a chance to *enjoy* the Onion Knight class!

  MOUNT BERVENIA:
      # Nightmare - Replaces Materia Blade
      # Giant's Axe - New Treasure Hunter tile at (8,8)
      # Brass Coronet - Replaces Flameburst Bomb
      # Brigand's Glove - Replaces Flameburst Bomb

Note: This map previously had only three locations, because the fourth was unreachable.
The new fourth location is one tile short of the top of the volcano.

Note: Flameburst Bombs now randomly drop after completing battles on this map.

  MOUNT GERMINAS:
      * Invisibility Cloak - Original item (Unchanged)

  DORVAULDAR MARSH:
      # Deathbringer - Replaces Elixir
      # Gae Bolg - Replaces Elixir
      * Perseus Bow - Replaces Elixir
      # Sage's Ring - Replaces Elixir

Note: Elixirs now randomly drop after completing battles on this map.

      + Cinquedea - Replaces Kiyomori
      # Onion Sword - Replaces Blaze Gun

      * Rod of Faith - Replaces Yoichi Bow
      * Staff of the Magi - Replaces Zeus Mace (second copy)
      # Onion Shield - Replaces Elixir

  MIDLIGHT'S DEEP - FLOOR 4 - THE CATACOMBS:
      # Orochi - Replaces Elixir
      # Vesper - Replaces Rod of Faith
      # Sagittarius Bow - Replaces Faerie Harp
      # Onion Helm - Replaces Kaiser Shield (second copy)

      * Zodiac Spear - Replaces Ninja Gear (second copy)
      # Stardust Rod - Replaces Elixir
      # Nirvana - Replaces Cursed Ring

  MIDLIGHT'S DEEP - FLOOR 7 - THE CROSSING:
      # Durandal - Replaces Koga Blade
      # Golden Axe - Replaces Elixir
+ Dhanusha - Replaces Staff of Magi
      # Sage's Robe - Replaces Elixir

  MIDLIGHT'S DEEP - FLOOR 8 - THE SWITCHBACK:
      # Chaos Blade - Replaces Ragnarok
      * Chirijiraden - Replaces Perseus Bow
      # Reverie Shield - Replaces Elixir
      # Brave Suit - Replaces Lordly Robe

  MIDLIGHT'S DEEP - FLOOR 9 - THE INTERSTICE:
      * Valhalla               - Replaces Elixir
      # Crown Scepter - Replaces Grand Helm
      # Dreamwaker - Replaces Venetian Shield (second copy)
      # Grand Armor - Replaces Maximillian

  MIDLIGHT'S DEEP - FLOOR 10 - TERMINUS:
      - Elixir - Replaces Valhalla (previously called Chaos Blade)
      - Elixir - Replaces Chirijiraden
      - Elixir - Original item (Unchanged)
      - Elixir - Original item (Unchanged)

Note: Previous versions of this mod had unique items on this floor, but it was a bit unsatisfying to
finally get the most powerful weapons but have nothing left in the game to conquer with them.
Thus, the new progression allows everything to be obtained before this floor, which is why it's
              all Elixirs now.
